PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana: The Central Government is reportedly contemplating a boost in the allocation per farmer within the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) Yojana, according to sources. The proposed increase could see the allocation per farmer rise from the current ₹6,000 annually to ₹8,000, as per the sources.
The government is also contemplating raising the provisions within the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. A final decision on these matters is expected to be made soon, as per sources informed CNBC-TV18.
The PM-KISAN scheme is categorized as a central sector initiative aimed at offering income support to all landholding farmers’ families nationwide. On the other hand, the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana involves the provision of an additional 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month, supplementing the regular monthly distribution under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The government is expected to disburse the 16th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme between February 2024 and March 2024, though there has been no official announcement confirming this. The 15th installment of the scheme was released by the center on November 15, 2023.
Simultaneously, the government is considering implementing additional support measures for the impoverished, farmers, youth, and women in the interim Budget 2024. Sources indicate that various government departments are in the process of designing schemes aimed at enhancing financial assistance for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
It’s important to note that the Finance Minister, in a recent statement, reiterated that the February 1 Budget will primarily function as a vote on account, refraining from any “spectacular announcements.” According to Article 116 of the Indian Constitution, a vote on account signifies an advance grant from the Consolidated Fund of India to address short-term expenditure needs until the commencement of the new financial year.
Historically, in accordance with British protocol, traditional Budgets abstain from revealing significant policy decisions. Instead, they function as interim measures until a new government takes office.
It is important to highlight that, during the term of an outgoing government, either an interim Budget is presented or a vote on account is requested. The responsibility for presenting a comprehensive Budget with substantial policy decisions lies with the incoming government.
